2010

Happy New Year everyone!

This year is slated to be a year of growth for me, I’ve decided. Involved in this growth is an expansion of my website, where I now offer Usui Reiki attunements for those interested in learning the “original” form of Reiki healing. I also changed the Energy Healing Mentoring Program into the more streamlined Intuitive Development Coaching, which is greatly simplified into individual sessions.

I’ve also started a BlogTalkRadio show called Reiki Talk, which had its first broadcast last night. Here is the player so you can listen to the recording at your convenience.
I started the show to help people get introduced to Reiki, answer questions, and address specific topics pertaining to Reiki healing, such as Distance Healing, Reiki and Permission, Reiki and Angels, Reiki and Kids, Reiki and Teens, and more. There are call-in opportunities and a live chat going on during the show, so please tune in, participate, and enjoy. The show will air the first Sunday night of each month, at 11 pm EST. All will be available for listening afterward as well.

Those who subscribe to the Reiki Awakening Newsletter will also be receiving new weekly Reiki Tips emails with ideas for using Reiki, and special discounted courses or products featured on my website. To subscribe, enter your email at the bottom of my website. I welcome your feedback on the Newsletter, Reiki Tips, and Reiki Talk.

I am teaching locally, with more classes scheduled through March, at CHEMAM, and Insight Wellness for those in the Cleveland area. Local classes scheduled include: Reiki for Parents, Distance Healing, Kundalini Reiki, Reiki for Teens, Reiki for Nurses, and Usui Reiki. I’m also offering Reiki healing sessions and Intuitive Development Coaching at CHEMAM.

I really felt that it was time to move forward. Teaching Reiki is an important part of my life and my passion. I really believe it is my role to share this amazing energy with all who are open to learning about it. Although some of my family members and friends look at me with some skepticism, wondering if this career makes sense for me, or if it can be successful, I know in my heart it’s what I’m meant to do. I’m moving ahead, finding ways to reach more people, and quietly and confidently continuing to walk this path. The emails I receive from people who have learned or received Reiki from me, and the students who thank me for the way Reiki has changed their life are the validation that this is right. I don’t have an explanation for the strength of my conviction, other than the way that I feel a sense of joy when I’ve helped someone access this powerful energy. I’m a teacher, a gateway, to connect people with their powerful energy for balance and healing. Reiki is here for everyone, and all are capable of helping themselves and each other heal and be well. I wasn’t aware, even 3 years ago, that this was who I am, but now I know. Funny that it took this long to develop, but life works in mysterious ways. Maybe I wasn’t ready before, or maybe I was honing my teaching skills to lead up to this. Whatever the reason, I feel like I need to embrace this role, like I’ve finally discovered myself in it.

Thank you for being a part of my journey.
Peace.

Alice’s Awakening

People often ask me how I got here, how I became a passionate Reiki teacher. Here’s the story, and links to a number of posts written at the time of the events I’ve described here. Please enjoy.

When I was a kid, I wanted to feel special. Doesn’t everyone want to feel special, endowed with something that stands out, a reason for being here? I used to read lots of books about characters with psychic powers or special abilities, and wish I was like that. But, I wasn’t.

I grew up with a liberal Jewish upbringing. I attended Hebrew School, became Bat Mitzvah and continued attending religious school through High School. I remember wishing for some feeling that what I was doing had a purpose. I wanted to feel a connection with God or at least something outside myself during services, prayers, or any time at all. I never did.

I didn’t dislike being Jewish. I felt, and still feel, connected with a People, culture, history, land, language, religion and traditions. I even went on after college to study Judaism further and received a Master’s degree in Jewish Studies. But through all of this study and search, something remained elusive: a spiritual connection. I wanted something I could feel and be sure about. I was fascinated by, skeptical of, and a little envious of those who had “spiritual confidence” – utter faith and belief. For me, experience was the only way I was going to get to that point. The experience wasn’t there for me.

I felt the most frustration during formal worship services. There are group and individual prayers, standing, sitting, singing and reading in Hebrew. I knew them all, but nothing gave me the feeling I craved. I was seeking a certainty of something more, something beyond this existence. I would leave services feeling frustrated. I wondered why I had come, what others were getting out of the experience. I think I drove my husband kinda nuts with asking him what he got out of the experience. His answers didn’t help me. He wasn’t struggling the same way as I was.

When I was pregnant with my youngest child, a parent at my kids’ school asked me if I’d like to learn Reiki. I had no idea what that was. She explained that Reiki is an energy healing technique that could be helpful for reducing pregnancy discomforts. She had my attention, and I figured, “Why not?” I came to her house, where she taught me Usui Reiki level 1, and gave me my first attunement.

I was underwhelmed, but faithfully did my Reiki self healings throughout my pregnancy, and sometimes gave my infant daughter Reiki after she was born. When she was a year and a half old, I asked that same parent if there was more to Reiki than what I had learned. She said absolutely and asked if I would like to learn level 2. I agreed.

My level 2 Reiki attunement changed everything. As soon as my teacher attuned me to level 2, my hands began to tingle. When I deliberately thought “Reiki,” my hands tingled and warmed in response. When I put them on or above myself or someone else, the resulting sense of relaxation, warmth and peace were undeniable. My teacher taught me distance healing as well. Here was the defining moment of my spiritual awakening.

This was what I had been searching for as long as I could remember: a tangible response to spiritual energy. Learning Reiki created my spiritual connection. I began offering distance healing weekly to two friends, and their physical and emotional health improvements were amazing. One of my friends had a deep fear of medical procedures, and a health issue that was terrifying her. The Reiki healings helped her release this over time, and she became calmer. It turned out she didn’t need the procedure she was expecting, as the issue had healed. The other friend was having physical therapy, and over the course of time, she experienced great improvements and didn’t need to continue the therapy. I was amazed, delighted, and felt completely inspired. My friends were too, and both of them went on to learn Reiki for themselves.

This was more than a physical-spiritual connection now, this was the magic power I desired in my youth; a purpose for my existence. I had been transformed from a mere mortal to someone with healing power. Three months later, I became a Reiki Master Teacher.

I knew that if I could learn to do this, anyone could. It became my mission to teach others what’s right inside us all. I find great joy, satisfaction and validation in seeing others find their spiritual connection as I did, and knowing that they go on to pass this knowledge to others.

Every day, I receive emails from my students telling me how amazed they are at the way Reiki has improved their lives. Many of them go on to teach others, join the Distance Healing Network, and share this amazing energy with their family, friends, and those who need it. This keeps me going, reminds me daily of the power and reality of this connection to energy, and the immense power that everyone has within if they care to find it. It has become my purpose to help people discover this, and I’ve never felt so fulfilled, motivated, and grateful.

Love and gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey so far, and all who will join me yet.
Peace.

The Rosy Glasses

Had an interesting lesson on perspective this week from my friend David. He started the conversation by congratulating me on my husband’s job situation. My first thought was that he’d missed the memo – didn’t realize that my husband is looking for work after being laid off recently from his job at MetroHealth. So I fired off a reply saying, “He is laid off, David.” His response surprised me.
“I know… I always tell people congratulations for being laid off. Because I 10000% believe that can only lead to some amazing opportunities. It sucks while it’s happening, but everything in my life that has sucked has produced amazing growth that I wouldn’t be who I am without…” I have to say that this is the sweetest, most optimistic thing I’ve been told in a while about our situation. And it really got me thinking.

Maybe he is right. Why not? Important big changes in our lives are really happening right now. The more we look at them in that light, the more things will clarify.

Some more ways to use this “rosy glasses” view to see things:

  • My kids’ summer day camp has been canceled. That left me without a summer job and three of my kids without a day camp plan. With Evan looking for a job, and me working on building my Reiki practice, maybe the opportunities here are for family time and more time to devote to the growth of my Reiki practice. These are opportunities we wouldn’t have had if I was teaching and my kids were in camp 5 days a week for the summer.

  • Evan is looking for a job. (Did I mention this? ha). Maybe this is the kick in the butt I need to devote some time to making the most of building my Reiki practice – right when it’s needed. Sometimes we get most motivated when there’s a need over a goal, dream or desire. Needs are urgent motivators for sure. Luckily, I have some wonderful people helping me with this, Helena Jackson and Fred Krazeise, both very dear friends who are giving me practical advice I need to improve my website and see the potential in Reiki Awakening and myself as a professional Reiki healer and teacher.

I have told my students in the past that life is many things. The way you choose to view life determines how you feel about it. I gave them all little kaleidoscopes one day to illustrate this point. Looking in the kaleidoscope makes the world look different from usual. Compare this to taking a new approach to seeing a problem. You can look at the world and feel terrible. The world can be horrible. People mistreat each other in really tragic ways. Money is tight, bills are high, the housing market stinks…blahblahblah. And yet, the world can be beautiful. People help each other, we have the power to heal ourselves and others, we can choose to visualize beauty and success and feel it. We can find new opportunities to be our best in the midst of everything. We can make a conscious choice to be good, loving people, for this moment, for the day, for tomorrow too.

I am meditating each day on the Reiki Precepts. They are:

Just for today:
I will not be angry.
I will not worry.
I will be grateful.
I will do my work honestly.
I will treat everyone with kindness.

These five little goals are the seeds of an amazing outlook on life. Each one has in it the potential to improve oneself and life for those around one in truly inspirational ways. It takes work. I have trouble sometimes with the whole day, so I make it “just for this moment” for those that I find more challenging. But I believe that the more I commit myself to these ideas, each moment, each day, the more I will see the good in my situation and the opportunities that are here.

Thank you David, for inspiring me to see this way.

Peace.

Religion, Spirituality and Reiki

This week, I’ve been thinking about the ideas of faith, belief and spirituality. These thoughts usually come up for me when I’m at services. Rarely do formal worship services resonate with me, although I sometimes have to go and participate with the family. Friday night was one of those times. As I do when I’m at a service in the congregation, I found myself pondering religious ritual, formal worship, and means of making the connection to a Higher Source.

I’m Jewish. I should probably mention that I’m comfortable being Jewish. More than a religious practice, Judaism is a culture. This means it involves family, history, food, music, art, books, holidays, language, Bible, religious writings, education, and ties to a land (Israel). It’s essentially a way of life. I also have a Master’s Degree in Jewish Studies, and have worked as a Jewish educator either part time or full time for the last 13 years. Despite my education and teaching experience, the formal worship aspect has never made me feel spiritually connected.

Judaism is founded on monotheism, and many of our prayers are of the “God is One” variety, which works for me. But as I sat in services on Friday night, I realized an aspect of what’s wrong with it for me. What’s not working for me is that in the prayers, God is addressed as You. You this, You that, thank You, You are this, You are that… separate from “us.”

This feels wrong to me because the way I’ve come to feel about spirituality is that WE are God – we all are, via our souls, essences, life force – and we are connected to each other through this same energy. Our energy – our soul essence -connects all life, and that is Spirit energy. We are all capable of learning to give more of this essence energy (Life Force Energy, Ki, Chi, whatever you might call it) to each other as needed, for healing, balance, etc. in whatever way we learn how (Reiki, Quantum Touch, and many other energy healing modalities), and there are many ways.

But it doesn’t matter how we do this – just that we do. I think it could be one of the main reasons for existence, to feel this connectedness, elevate our vibrations, learn to help each other and the world (for all nature is connected by this energy – plants, animals, the Earth). Once you know how to do this, you see the world and life itself so differently. I don’t need formal worship to feel connected because I feel connected through energy work.

The people who devalue life, who hate others and think they are better than others, who let the
ego interfere with the basic principle of connectedness are missing this essential point. That’s why it usually seems that organized religion separates people into little groups of people who miss the point. Once a religion asserts that it is the “True” path to spirituality, it is missing the point of the connectedness, the Oneness of everyone and everything.

So why am I writing this? I often think about the ideas of faith, belief and spirituality. I don’t reject religion in general or my religion. In fact, I feel connected to the belonging-ness and the aspects of Judaism that stress the importance of helping, caring for the planet, respecting others, and being a good person. Holiday themes of family and togetherness, the importance of everyone, and seeking a connection with God are parts that I especially like.

Reiki is not a religion. It is a spiritual practice however. That is its essence because it involves connecting with this spiritual energy. It is not a religion because it requires no beliefs, does not single out one group over another, and it does not require a formalized ritual of worship. There are no Reiki holidays. There is not Reiki food. No language needs to be learned. Symbols are optional but have no religious significance. There are precepts, ideas of how Reiki can benefit your life, but it’s not considered Law or required faith, or something to accept or suffer any consequences if you don’t.

So this week’s blog entry is intended to share my thoughts on religion, spirituality, faith and Reiki with you. Please comment if you feel moved to do so.

Thank you. Peace.

Big Developments

I’m excited to announce the launch of ReikiAwakening.com ! This is a very good thing for both the blog and the website of Reiki Awakening. Here’s why:

  • the blog was getting to be too many things, with all of the attunements and products along the right column and integrated in posts, and the blog posts over here.
  • It was disorganized, and it was obvious that I needed to be able to provide more information on what Reiki is, what attunements are, and the different things I offer in an easily navigational way.
  • the blog is designed to be a journal and doesn’t flow as well as a website.

So it is better now! This blog can be my journal of my experiences with Reiki, and will continue to do so, and the website will be where users can find more information about Reiki, learn about and order different attunements, programs, and products such as tachyon stones and the e-book. I even have Reiki Awakening t-shirts and an awesome tote bag! Come check it out! I invite you to come back here and leave a comment letting me know how you like it.

You, readers, have been integral in the process, and it’s wonderful to have the connections and feedback from you as I’ve been working with Reiki and developing my Reiki practice.

Other great announcements!

  • I have two new attunements to offer! Light of Forgiveness and Intuition Reiki. Both available now on the website.

Light of Forgiveness is a beautiful energy that helps you forgive and let go of anything you have been holding in your energy, from annoyances to serious anger.

Intuition Reiki helps you tune in to your intuition through your third eye chakra and teaches you ways to increase your connection with your guidance and Higher Self.

  • I launched the Reiki for Parents Course, which I’ve been wanting to offer. This is a mentoring program designed especially for parents, including Reiki attunements and exercises and close guidance on using Reiki for empowering parents. As parents, Reiki provides great techniques for soothing, calming and healing our children and also for de-stressing ourselves from the hard work of being a parent! Sound good? Check it out at the ReikiAwakening.com website!
  • I will be sending out a newsletter periodically with exclusive specials on attunements, new information, and more. I would love to do something to reward people for being with me and being a part of the new ReikiAwakening.com. The newsletter gives me that opportunity! Sign up at the bottom of the ReikiAwakening.com home page. Your email will only be used for the newsletter if you want to receive it. I would never, ever share your information.
  • I have been asked to be a guest on an Internet radio show with ReclaimU.com Radio! What an honor! More to follow on when exactly, although I believe it will air at the end of May. I’ll have a copy to post on the website!
  • I was featured this week in Nutrabeautiful.com! Click here to see the interview! (March 28 issue).
  • My new website has already had over 200 hits since yesterday afternoon and it’s getting nice attention and praise! I feel supported by the Universe, blessed, and so very positive and excited about all of this.

Thank you for being a part of my journey! I would love to hear your comments on the new website, and suggestions about things you might like to see there!

Peace.

A Year as a Reiki Master Teacher

Today marks one year since I took the Usui Reiki Master/ Teacher level course (read my post from a year ago here) and attunement at Ursuline College. This has been a very eventful and enlightening year of self discovery, sharing, healing, and leaps of faith. I’ve met amazing people, shared healings, attunements, guidance, learning and celebrated the many ways that Reiki can improve one’s life. It’s been amazing. I’m truly grateful.

This past week, my husband asked me to do a channeled reading for him. This was a big step and it signifies the way he has grown along with me, moving from skeptical observer to staunch supporter. I was nervous, but had a strong and profound experience as I contacted guidance and typed what I received. I was given much more than I had asked, and we were both moved by the results. This experience brought to light the ways in which we’ve become a “Reiki family,” making Reiki a regular part of our home life and interactions with each other, and strengthening our family on all levels. With the two of us and the four children attuned to Reiki, there are new ways for us to grow together and help others. The appreciation I feel is overwhelming.

My blog is my journal of all that has happened in my energetic awareness so far, and the ways in which I have attempted to share my experiences with others. Sharing has been part of my growth, and I thank all who have taken an interest and offered me encouragement.

I intend the next year to be one in which I reach more people, teach energy healing that fits each person, connect with energy, guidance and angels on higher levels, learn more, and grow in as yet unimagined ways. Bringing energy healing to others is clearly my path and I am truly blessed to be accepting and owning it with love and gratitude for each moment.

I invite all who are curious about distance healing to contact me. If you are looking to find your path, I would love to help you. Thank you for the opportunity to meet and connect with you.

Please explore my blog. Share experiences, comment, and read about the teaching, channeled readings, healing, attunements, and energy-charged healing stones I am blessed to offer.

Peace and light.

Emerging into the Light

Hello!

First, I’m feeling better from my Spiritual Upgrade I wrote about last week. Funny how I know it’s over – I do feel lighter and more clear-headed. Also, when I drive, the yellow line in the middle of the road has a big blue aura around it – lol! I notice that and realize I’m seeing something energetic and that’s another clue!

Meanwhile – I am meeting some amazing people on Twitter, and if you’re there, check out the list of people I’m following. I would dearly love to sit down with the lot of them and talk for about a month about Reiki and energy healing, positive thinking, and all of the energetic arts. There are many inspiring people there. Stop by and follow along!

And, I have a BIG IDEA that I’m starting to build into reality. I’m awfully excited about it. I bought a website domain – www.reachinglight.com – and I’ve started inviting some of the most amazing people I’ve met and had excellent experiences with to gather together with me on this project. It’s going to be a resource of information on many sorts of energy related things – Reiki, auras, angels, chakras, channeling, psychic connection, intuition, and more. The people I’ve invited are experts, and the real deal. What the page will be is a place for people to come and read some articles about the various topics, and link to the people who are experts on them. I envision classes, discounts for different combinations of services, a place for Q&A, a blog, and fantastic energy. I’ll keep you posted on the developments!

Meanwhile, thank you to those who have signed up so far for my holiday special and welcome to anyone else who wants to join in before Dec. 20!

I’ve been getting good experience and feedback with channeling and it’s always a learning and growing opportunity for all involved.

Blessings all around.

Reiki Retreat This Weekend!

Hello friends!

Tomorrow morning through Sunday afternoon I will be away from my computer (gasp!) in a nature reserve with 14 Reiki practitioners and Reiki Masters, learning, sharing Reiki with each other, and connecting with nature. Woo-hoo, I am so excited!

And look what I made to bring with me:

What do you think?

I’ll post on Sunday night to share my experiences and the wonderful contacts that I’m sure I’ll be making with other Reiki people. This could be another step in my journey, and I am soooo ready!

Peace.

The Mind-Body-Spirit Connection

We’re still surrounded by mounds of snow here, but seem to have dug enough pathways to get to and from where we need to go, so that’s progress for you.

Meanwhile, I want to report that I had a great meeting last night with a really wonderful Reiki person. We are exploring the possibilities of working together to promote Reiki. He has access to studio space in a pilates/yoga studio near my home, and we spent a good hour and a half sharing our Reiki experiences and ideas. My hands were tingling often while we talked, and I think we both felt very positive about the possibilities.

My first book on my reading list was ready at the library and I picked up Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss. She is a Medical Intuitive, and I started reading her book last night. She posits that physical ailments in the body are a result of our negative thoughts, emotions, and experiences that build up and cause the conditions. She can intuit health problems developing often before a person knows they are there. She can also channel the underlying cause of the problem. She can do all of this by just hearing the person’s name and age. Remarkable. But, not impossible or shocking to my way of thinking at this point in my experiences, because I can connect with an individual’s energy to send him or her Reiki simply by having that person’s name and age or location. I can also sometimes tell where a person needs extra energy through a similar (but significantly less develped!) intuition.

I find this reading fascinating, and will eagerly continue to explore her ideas. I have some kind of strange sciatica-type thing happening lately that may be a pinched nerve of some kind. I’m hoping to find the cause and help it heal through Reiki and energy work. It’s not painful, just a kind of “buzzing” feeling that feels as if my cell phone is on vibrate and is ringing throughout the day, especially after I go up or down stairs. Maybe working with Reiki, and attempting to incorporate what I’ll learn from Caroline Myss’ book will help me resove this. For me it’s not an issue of will that work, but just will I be able to get in touch with that level of intuition that will guide me in dealing with this.

I feel that the strength of the Reiki I’m able to channel has increased significantly since taking the Master level class a week and a half ago. Hard to believe that much time has passed already. I’m encouraged by this development, and intend to continue to work with the energy and see where it will lead. My meeting last night felt like it could lead to good opportunities with Reiki, and I’m excited to see what will develop.

And, I’ve been thinking lately about people who don’t believe in Reiki. Here’s my take on it:
I think people who doubt Reiki’s validity are ignorant about Reiki, because it seems on the surface to be impossible, magical even, that a person could just hold out their hands, think of a person’s name anywhere in the world, even if they’ve never met them, and send healing energy to that person that is tangibly felt by that person. It sounds close to just saying prayers for a person’s healing, or on the other side, like saying magic words and sending a magic spell to a person. Saying prayers or “magic words” don’t seem like they’d be enough to do anything. I mean, how many of us can affect our physical world by willing it? Can you close the door by saying “door, close”? Well I can’t. So how can someone say, in his or her mind, “I want to send healing to Joe Shmegeggi in Boston” and Joe receives healing? I get it – the idea of Reiki being real messes with people’s take on reality.

And hands-on Reiki has the same kind of innuendos. So we Reiki people expect the people we are telling about Reiki to put aside this ingrained idea of what is real and what is magic first, in order to be open to trying Reiki without skoffing, snickering, or feeling like a bozo. Not to mention that it’s scary to let go of one’s version of reality enough to be open to accept the possibilities of being touched by a kind of spiritual energy.

If a person is able to put aside all the ingrained cultural mumbo jumbo and get beyond it, he or she would have a better chance of really being helped by Reiki, or even being open to learning to channel it for him or herself. For some people, that’s asking a lot.

But it worked for me. I was just like everybody else who grew up without much of a spiritual connection. I’m not clairvoyant or especially intuitive by nature. I’m pretty down to earth and realistic usually. All of this growth the past few months has been a result of deciding that I would be open to trying and seeing what would happen.

And now my husband has joined me here. (Actually, I think he is even more sensitive to energy that I was at the Reiki I level, because his hands tingle when he thinks about Reiki. My hands didn’t tingle until I was attuned to Reiki II). All it took was him deciding to let his mind be open just enough to give it a try.

If I can do it, others can too.
Peace.
